Weekend - Fire Clean Up at the Block (17 Apr 2026)

DESCRIPTION/LOCATION: After the Block was fire damaged by a bush fire we have been cleaning up and making the DTA and the camp area safe to use. If you would like to help out over the weekend please register for this trip. This trip is suitable for all club members, this trip is very flexible relaxed trip, you can come for the 2 days or just for a day trip. I will be at the block Friday from (about 12pm), so when you arrive the gate may be open, after you enter, please close the gate again. There will be plenty of room for camping as we have cleaned up the camping area, we will have the hot water unit operating each night for showers, all being well. We can have a campfire for cooking and sitting around, weather permitting or we will use the wood heater in the Chalet. If you want to take some firewood home bring a trailer. If you want to bring a quiet dog, please let me know and we can discuss the options. (Phone number below)
We will this weekend be mainly finishing off the building works in the DTU and Tractor sheds,

Please bring your own drinking water, hats, suntan lotion, etc.

DESCRIPTION/LOCATION: The aim of the trip is to spend Saturday heading up and over Mt Terrible, taking the Moonlight Spur Track back to the Woods Point Road. The back end of Mt Terrible and Moonlight Spur are steep but not be overly difficult. There are 2 creeks to cross at the end of Moonlight Spur. If it has been raining heavily we may consider going via Frenchman's Gap.

We will be staying at the Howqua Holiday Park on both the Friday (1st May) and Saturday nights, with 5sies at the lake edge on both nights. If the weather is poor we can also use the Rec Room in the Park.
If you wish to stay at the park there is camping (powered and unpowered), caravan sites, and cabins available. You will need to book direct yourself - Make sure to tell them you are from the Pajero Club as I have arranged for 20% discount and a late check out for the Sunday. There are also free campsites dotted around the area if you prefer.
If you would like to join just for the day we plan to meet at the top carpark outside the Park Reception about 8h30am with wheels rolling 9am. Morning Tea at the top of Mt Terrible ( no Maccas so bring lunch and refreshments ...) Lunch at an appropriate view point, and air up/afternoon tea at Snakes Reserve, and we plan to be back in camp by 4ish... (Note, the only "Offical" Toilet is at Snakes Reserve - so bring appropriate tools).
I will also be doing a "Spicy" Sunday morning run over Stoney Creek Track-Mitchells-Masters Tracks via Granny's Flats Campsite to get coffee at the Jamieson General Store on Sunday morning which will take about 2 hours. This is a steep challenging track in the dry, butt clinching when wet... Let me know if you are keen and I will list it as a seperate trip for those that are keen. If you are not keen it is a 15 minute drive on the main road to Jamieson to meet up for coffee, or hang out in the park and enjoy the morning.

DESCRIPTION/LOCATION: The last Simpson Desert trip we did was such a great experience on so many levels that we thought it was time to do it again.
At this stage, the plan is for a three-week trip, starting and finishing in Melbourne.
We would drive from Melbourne to Hahndorf, mainly to break up the drive and, more importantly, to stop for a kitchener bun. From there we would continue on to Coober Pedy, spending some time exploring the area before heading north to Mt Dare.
After refuelling and final preparations at Mt Dare, we would head east across the Simpson Desert, potentially via the QAA Line, finishing in Birdsville. Once in Birdsville, the usual formalities would apply — a beer at the pub, the obligatory photo out the front, refuel, and a general vehicle check.
From Birdsville, the plan would be to head back west to Mt Dare, likely via the French Line, making this a full desert crossing in both directions (route choices are very much open for discussion).
After returning to Mt Dare, we would make our way south to Marree, with the option of doing a scenic flight over the Marree Man if conditions and interest allow. From Marree, it’s then the long run back to Melbourne and the unavoidable return to normal life.
The outline above is not set in stone. Route choices, timing, and side trips will be discussed with those coming along — partly to make sure everyone is happy, and partly so responsibility can be evenly shared if something goes wrong.

Are you a new member? Joined the Club in the last 12 months? Want to get more involved in Club trips? If so, come and join the Club's new members weekend.

The weekend will introduce new members to an overnight camp with the Club at Tolmie and a drive on Sunday morning suitable to various levels of driver experience. Want to meet more members? Sit around the fire and tell lies? Heard people talk about fivesies? Want to talk with some longer term members about their experiences with the club? Get some idea of places to go camping?

You do not have to have done your Proficiency training to join this weekend.

Meeting time and location - The group will meet at Tolmie Recreation Reserve. Please arrive by 3pm.

Overnight Camping: Tolmie Rec Reserve is a large wide open campground. The access roads are suitable for all types of camper trailers and caravans if that is what you have. Toilets and showers are available. Camping is approx. $10 per person per night paid by honesty box.

Sunday: We will take a drive up to visit a few hut around the Mt Sterling / Mt Buller area before everybody heads home on Sunday afternoon by about 3pm.

Proficiency Plus Mechanical Awareness Course 6th & 7th June 2026 (6 Jun 2026)

Mechanical Awareness course will be a two full days of theory and practical.

Would you like to be able to do simple mechanical repairs with a degree of understanding that you have not experienced before. Know that the parts you are spending your money on are actually needed and are being fitted to the car. Then come and participate in our mechanical awareness course.

Topics covered will be basic operation of your vehicle to give you a better understanding of how it all works; this can lead to you being able to tackle simple maintenance and repair tasks yourself e.g.

Tool identification and use, brake pad changing, oil and filter & other service items, minor electrical work are just some of the tasks you will be able to perform at the completion of the course. There is also a large amount of practical training not just theory involved in the course and in a lot of cases you will be able to perform work on your own vehicle. All cars will be placed on the hoist for you to have a better understanding of what is going on under the vehicle

DESCRIPTION/LOCATION: This trip will start in Johannesburg on July 31. The planed route will take us through the Kalahari and the Okavango Delta all the way north to Victoria falls in Zimbabwe. We will return to Johannesburg via a different route taking in the salt pans of Nxai Pan.
The trip is setup for August since its the best time of the year to see wildlife.
I have organized a place that will rent us fully equipped Toyota Hilux vehicles with all the camping gear including roof top tents, water tanks and a fridge.
The trip could include a couple of nights at a luxury camp site in the Okavango delta, depending on peoples budgets.
The budget for the trip should be around $15,000 excluding airfares from Melb.

A full weekend of 4WD techniques in true off-road conditions. The weekend will include an introduction to the following skills:
Winching basics, Chainsaw safety and basics, Snatch strap recoveries performed by participants, Tyre change, Jacking a vehicle on a incline, Towing, weight Distribution in campers and trailers, Mechanical maintenance, How to use an Exhaust Jack, Navigation basics.
